Barren Fig Tree

As Jesus was preaching about the signs of the times, there were some present who told Jesus about the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

Jesus heard this and said:

Do you think that these Galilaeans were greater sinners than others? Unless you repent you will also perish.

Regarding those 18 whom the tower of Siloam fell on and killed, do you think they were greater sinners than all the rest of the men who live in Jerusalem? Unless you repent you will also perish.

Then Jesus told this parable:

A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard. The season for it to bear fruit came, but when the man examined the tree, he found no fruit.

He said to the gardener in charge, I have come and examined this tree for three years and for three years it has not produced any figs.

I want you to cut it down so that it stops blocking the light and taking up the space that the other fruit-bearing trees need.

The gardener said, Lord please leave it growing for another year. I will dig around it and fertilize it, and if still does not produce fruit, then I will cut it down.
