Jesus then went on to teach that the kingdom of heaven was like a treasure hidden in a field that a man finds. Once he finds the treasure he sells everything that he has and buys the field:
The kingdom of heaven is also like a merchant who is looking for precious pearls.
When he finds one pearl of great value, he sells everything that he has and buys it.
The kingdom of heaven is also like a net that is cast into the sea: it gathers every kind of fish.
When the net is pulled in, the fishermen sit down and sort out the good fish they want to keep from the worthless ones.
This is how it will be at the end of the world. The angels will come and separate the righteous from the wicked. The wicked will be cast into a furnace of fire where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Then Jesus asked his disciples:
Have you understood all these things?
They answered:
Yes.
