As Jesus came near to the city of Jericho, a blind man sat by the wayside begging.
He heard the multitude and asked what all the commotion was about. He was told that Jesus of Nazareth would soon be passing by.
Jesus and His disciples came to Jericho with His disciples, and a great multitude followed Him.
The blind beggar, Bartimaeus, was sitting by the wayside along with another blind man. And when he heard Jesus coming near, he cried out with a loud voice,
‘Lord, son of David, have mercy on me.’
Many in the multitude rebuked Bartimaeus, telling him to be quiet, which made him yell even louder,
‘Lord have mercy on us!’
Jesus heard Bartimaeus and stood still, commanding him to be brought forward.
And they called Bartimaeus and told him to be of good cheer because Jesus was calling for him.
Bartimaeus threw his coat on the ground and sprang to his feet and came to Jesus.
Jesus asked,
“What can I do for you?”
Bartimaeus said,
‘Lord, I want to receive my sight.’
Jesus was moved with compassion and touched his eyes, and said,
“Receive your sight. Your faith has made you whole.”
Immediately he received his sight and began following Jesus along the way, glorifying God.
All the people who saw this began to praise God.
